Inlet and outlet are used to guide the pumped fluid into and out of the pump housing, usually divided into suction pipe and discharge pipe according to their functions. They are either connected directly to the system piping, or the suction nozzle is immersed in an open supply tank/tank, such as a vertical shell pump; The two orifices are immersed in the fluid together with the entire pump housing, such as immersion electric pumps.
If the pump design requires the drive shaft to pass through the pump housing, a shaft seal should be provided to prevent excessive leakage of fluid or air into the pump housing. These parts of the pump housing are designated as sealing chambers or stuffing boxes. Almost every type of pump has a different type of pump housing. The shape of the pump housing is related to the specific speed, as the specific speed increases, the following housing types will be used:
1.Volute, divided into single volute and double volute two kinds. The double volute structure consists of two volutes offset 180° to balance the radial force.

3.The ring shell (annular shell) has a constant cross-sectional area around it.

4.Tubular housing that directs pump input flow into the axial downstream of the diffuser.

5.Elbow housing, the input flow is discharged into the elbow (housing) through the diffuser.
The pump housing is connected by flanges on the open faces of the upper and lower housing and extends to the entire pump housing, including two sealing packing boxes, and is secured (sealed) by several bolts to withstand operating pressure and prevent leakage. Pump rotors for vertical single and multistage pumps are usually supported by pumping medium lubricated (product lubricated) bearings, so only one set of shaft seals is required.
Multistage pumps with product-lubricated bearings are very compact in design and run very smoothly because the rotor of such pumps is very rigid, which is due to the short spacing between bearings. In addition, the pump configuration uses bearings specifically lubricated by the product to save material and requires only a low-pressure mechanical seal.
In addition to the housing types described above, the pump housing sometimes includes a heat shield or cooling jacket, which is usually closed by a special cooling cover. Both structures are designed to reduce the heat transfer of pumping hot/high-temperature fluids to the pump mechanical shaft seals (if any) and bearings or wet rotor motors.
